Located in one of the few remaining apricot orchards of Santa Clara Valley, the Los Altos History Museum explores the rich history of local people and how the use of the land over time has transformed the agricultural paradise once known as the “Valley of Heart’s Delight” into the high technology hub of today’s Silicon Valley. Opened in spring of 2001, the Los Altos History Museum resides in an impressive three-level, 8,200-square-foot building.

Los Altos Sister Cities, Inc. (LASCI) is a non-profit, all volunteer organization which manages the sister cities program for the City of Los Altos. Currently, Los Altos has four Sister Cities:
- Bendigo, which located in the Australian state of Victoria, 90 miles north of Melbourne;
- Rustington, a small community in West Sussex, England, between Portsmouth and Brighton;
- Shih-Lin, the largest district within Taipei, Taiwan; and
- Syktyvkar, which is located in the northern part of European Russia, approximately 630 miles northeast of Moscow.

The Los Altos Library, located in the Los Altos Civic Center, and the Woodland Branch Library, located in the southern part of Los Altos, serve the residents of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and the surrounding unincorporated area. The original Los Altos Library opened in 1964 and was remodeled in 1993. The Woodland Branch Library, opened in 1976, was remodeled in 1997. Los Altos and Los Altos Hills actively supports both libraries. This support is reflected in the circulation statistics: circulation per capita: 40.26 (one of the highest in California)

The City of Los Altos Youth Theatre is an educational program dedicated to developing skills and interest in the dramatic arts. Growing out of a series of theater programs going back as long as there has been a City Recreation Program, the program is now year-round, producing three plays and one musical per year. Plays suitable for audiences of various ages, and at various levels of difficulty, are included in each season.

The Los Altos Town Crier, a locally owned weekly newspaper, is located at 138 Main Street in downtown Los Altos. Published since 1947, they offer in-depth, local news relevant to the community of Los Altos. The Town Crier has thousands of paid subscribers among the weekly circulation of 16,500. Hundreds of subscribers in neighboring communities and out-of-state also receive the newspaper, on a weekly basis. After more than six decades of publishing weekly, the Los Altos Town Crier is a veritable institution.
