• The Senior Center is slated to celebrate its 37th anniversary with a birthday lunch noon Feb. 21.


• Book Club: 1 p.m. Feb. 13, Room 18. February’s selection is “Cleopatra: A Life” (Little, Brown, 2010) by Stacy Schiff. Participants may bring a bag lunch and join members at 12:30 p.m.


• Personal Emergency Preparedness class: 6-9 p.m. Feb. 18, Room 16. The city of Los Altos, in coordination with the fire and police departments, offers PEP training. Topics include: impact of an area-wide disaster; a how-to guidebook covering seniors’ health and wellness; fire safety and fire extinguishers; household hazardous materials; emergency planning; and supply-kit preparation. • Computer assistance: 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays (PC), 1-2 p.m. Thursdays (iPad and Mac) in Room 10. PC tutor Jenny Warila introduces seniors to basic computer concepts. Dean Johnson handles troubleshooting with Apple devices, applications, downloading upgrades and more. The experts are available by appointment only for those with Senior Center membership.

• Case management: 10 a.m. Friday and Feb. 21, case managers from the Community Services Agency discuss various topics of interest. Friday’s topic will be housing. The Feb. 21 presentation will cover emergency assistance. To make an appointment, call the Senior Center.

• Free tax assistance and electronic filing: 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Feb. 10 through April 14, Room 10. Available to low- to moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those more than 60 years old. Bring a list of your income, cost basis information for taxable sales, deductible expenses and tax payment, copies of your 2012 federal and state tax returns, a picture ID and documents showing all Social Security numbers. Sponsored by the AARP Tax-Aide program, which requires all tax returns to be filed electronically. By appointment only. Call the Senior Center for an appointment.
